Rule of Law and Access to Justice in Fragile States Training Course

Introduction

In fragile states, the absence or breakdown of the rule of law and limited access to justice are primary drivers of instability, perpetuating cycles of violence and impunity. This 5-day training course on Rule of Law and Access to Justice in Fragile States offers a critical examination of the challenges and opportunities for rebuilding legitimate and effective justice systems in these complex environments. Participants will gain a deep understanding of how to strengthen legal frameworks, enhance judicial independence, improve accountability mechanisms, and ensure that all citizens, especially the most vulnerable, can access fair and equitable legal processes, thereby laying foundations for lasting peace and development.

This intensive program is designed for legal professionals, human rights advocates, peacebuilding practitioners, development workers, government officials, and civil society actors working in or preparing for roles in fragile and conflict-affected contexts. It will equip attendees with the analytical tools to diagnose systemic weaknesses, identify key reform priorities, and design context-specific interventions that foster trust in justice institutions. By mastering the multifaceted dimensions of rule of law promotion and access to justice, participants will be empowered to contribute effectively to human security and the consolidation of peace.
